LINWOOD — Christmas came early Nov. 12 in the hills near Linwood.
Moses Merrill Camp and Conference Center held its ninth annual Holidays with the Merrills on Veterans Day. Vibrant quilts were displayed on the walls of Friendship Chapel and Christmas decorations filled tables lining the room.
Visitors were also able to buy various Christmas decor items made by local artists through a silent auction.
According to Moses Merrill Camp director Bev Pacas, the event is held to raise money for the camp.
“This is a Christian camp that was set up by the Ministry of American Baptist Churches of Nebraska,” Pacas said. “What we do all through the year is hold summer camps and retreats for men and women. We’re always doing something up here.”
Longtime volunteer Dennis Reichenburg offered wagon rides at the event.
“They keep us volunteers pretty busy through the year,” he said. “But I keep coming back. When the summer camps are going, I take care of the grounds and the pools. This time I’m running the wagon rides and the whole thing takes about 20 minutes through the hills around the conference center.”
Holidays with the Merrills is the only fundraiser for the camp, which is open year-round.
