C.J. and Cortny Augustine

C.J. and Cortny Augustine hold their son Tex, the first baby born at Butler County Health Care Center. For the third straight year the first baby arrived on Jan. 4.

January 4 is becoming a popular birthday at the Butler County Health Care Center. For the third year in a row, that date has welcomed the first baby of the year in Butler County.

This year Tex Augustine had the honors. He is the son of Cortny and C.J. Augustine of Shelby.

Tex arrived weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. He has an older brother, Jaedon, who was pleased that he has a little brother. He probably would have been overjoyed with a sister too.

“He got lucky,” Cortny said of Jaedon.

While people won’t have trouble spelling Tex’s name, he may end up explaining that his parents do not, in fact, have any ties to Texas.

“He (C.J.) got to choose a boy’s name and I chose the girl’s name,” Cortny explained of the name selection.

After knowing each other a long time, the Augustines got married about a year and a half ago. Cortny is a registered nurse at BCHCC and C.J. has been farming in the Shelby area since before he graduated from Shelby High School in 2003.

Grandparents of Tex are Jim and Marché Augustine of Shelby and Joe and Kim Standerford of Humboldt. Great grandparents are Jim and Jeanne Standerford and Merle and Marleen Mahlin of Humboldt, and Myrna Dey of Shelby.
