Donald Eugene Gable, age 82, of Shelby, Nebraska, passed away October 25, 2017 at his home in Shelby.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Leo Seiker officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church with a 6 p.m. Rosary. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
Donald was born July 27, 1935, the eighth and youngest child of Frank F. and Marie (Korger) Gable. He grew up on a farm north of Shelby, attended country school and graduated from Shelby Public High School in 1953. He married Luella Martens on August 31, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby.
After graduating from high school, he helped his brother-in-law Dean Smith farm and worked at Fletcher's in Columbus. After marriage, he lived in town in Shelby and worked road maintenance for Polk County. He then worked at Columbus Hydraulics, Andreasen Implement, was part owner and semi driver for DRT Trucking, truck driver for Shelby Fertilizer Feed & Seed and semi driver for United Farmer's Cooperative where he retired in 2007. He was a member of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department for several years and a member of Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
After retirement he continued to enjoy working with car, truck and lawn mower engines and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Luella Gable of Shelby; two daughters, Lisa (Neil) Otto of Genoa, Myra (Evan) Pinney of Osceola; nine grandchildren: Colton Gable, Riley (Eric) Bushhousen, Donovan Otto, Quinlan Otto and Rowan Otto all of Genoa, Montana Gable of Omaha, Conner Pinney of Lincoln, Mackenzie Pinney and Kayleigh Pinney both of Osceola; great grandson Oliver Bushhousen of Genoa; sister Helen Matya of Mitchell, S.D., Evelyn Morgan of Kimball, Irene Smith of Columbus, Betty Watts of Papillion and brother Edward Gable of Papillion, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Agnes Kuta and Norma Valquardsen.
