On November 11, 1966 she was united in marriage to Vern in Sheldon, Iowa. To this union five children were born (Bridget, Mike, Melanie, Neil and Katie). They lived in Big Rapids, Michigan for a year prior to moving to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1970 and then settled in Shelby in 1971. Kay went on to attend UNL where she received her BA and later her MA in education.
She taught Business at Rising City for 20 years. She then taught at Columbus High until she retired, celebrating with a "Celebrate Life" party. She touched so many lives through teaching and loved her students, while developing many special friendships along the way.
She loved watching Vern pitch and spent endless hours at his baseball games. She also took great pride in watching Vern, Mike and Neil play slow-pitch softball together. Kay enjoyed attending all her kids' events, regardless of the type of activity. Her grandkids kept her busy traveling to sporting events, music events, plays, and anything they pursued. She was their biggest cheerleader. She was very dedicated to all of her family. Kay loved Husker Volleyball, reading, playing bridge, hand and foot, and spider solitaire, music (especially Christmas music and Elvis), decorating for all holidays, the Grossnicklaus camping trips, and taking care of her asparagus patch while Vern did the rest of the gardening.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she taught CCD and was a member of the Altar Society and Parish Council. She was also a member of the Clear Creek Extension Club, Bridge Club, Birthday Club and Pinn Club. Her friends and clubs brought her much joy.
