Mary Lou was born in David City on July 15, 1935 to John and Georgia Lavicky. She entered eternal rest on Nov. 5, 2017.
While still below school age her family moved from the farm to Dwight to open a grocery store.
She attended Assumption Grade and high school, graduating with the class of 1953. While in high school, Mary Lou helped out and worked in the family store. She enjoyed playing the piano accordion and was the organist for the church choir during her last two years in high school. In the fall of 1953 she enrolled in St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lincoln she graduated as an RN in 1956 and spent several years working at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
On April 7, 1956, Mary Lou married Chuck Novacek in Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight. They lived in Omaha the entire 61 years of their blessed married life. To this union were born three children, Dale, Kay and Alan. Mary Lou was all about family and was deeply devoted to her husband and their children. She had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them in many different venues. Mary Lou loved to travel, dance play cards, golf and she especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, children, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, brother John (Dorothy) Lavicky of Dwight, sister Jean (Lee) Coufal of Bruno. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Omaha. Burial was at the new Omaha National Cemetery, a final resting place for Veterans and their spouses.
