Victor “Vic” “Bruno” Kenneth Pelan, Jr., was born on August 28, 1952, in David City to Victor Ernest Pelan, Sr. and Irene Marie (Odvody) Pelan and passed away on September 20, 2017, in Lincoln at the age of 65 years and 23 days.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight Father Raymond Jansen celebrating. Visitation is 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday Sept. 25 at Zabka Funeral Home, Dwight. Rosary is 7 p.m. Monday Sept. 25 at the church. Interment: Union Cemetery, Dwight. Memorials to the Pelan family for future designations.
Vic grew up in the Bruno area where he attended grade school at Holy Trinity in Brainard, David City Public High School, and East Butler High School.
Vic worked at several different places including as a police officer in Cedar Bluffs for a short time, but spent more than 30 years at Excel in Schuyler, retiring in 2013. Most recently he was employed with Pillen Family Farms, Inc., in the Brainard office up until his passing. Vic was married to Carol Roberts and to this union five children were born. He later was united in marriage to Sharon (Swartz) Kocian on June 19, 2004, in Seward. Together their family included nine children. In his earlier years Vic loved riding motorcycles with his friends from Bruno. Vic enjoyed gardening, cars, collecting knives, fishing and going to antique stores. Vic’s biggest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Vic was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Richard and Dorothea Swartz: sister, Margaret Valenti: brother, Steve: two sisters-in-law, Chris Pelan and Lorna Pelan.
Vic is survived by his wife Sharon: children Eric Pelan, David City; Matt Pelan and wife Mardi, Norfolk; Mark Pelan and wife Alyson and children Britni, Brock and Breeze, Tilden; Scott Pelan, Norfolk; Vicki Barada and husband Tony and children Violet, A.J. and Archie, Ceresco; Vickie Prochaska and husband Todd and children Mercedes, Jake and Lexus, Seward; Jeff Kocian and wife Tammy and children Nolan, Tristan and Kameron, Dwight; Doug Kocian and wife Kristy and children Luke and Cole, Lincoln; Kelli Stara and husband Dean and children Brooklyn, Jaelyn and Jocelyn, David City: eight siblings, Ivan Pelan and wife Karen, Schuyler; Veronica Sherwood and husband Tom, Lincoln; Arnold Pelan and wife Mo, Aurora, Colo.; Loretta Palmer, Lincoln; Norman Pelan, Columbus; Daniel Pelan, Schuyler; Arthur Pelan and wife Jodi, Brainard; and Richard Pelan and wife Linda, Columbus, and numerous nieces and nephews.
