The Aquinas softball team came home with the championship trophy from the Central City Invite on Sept. 23.

The Monarchs defeated Central City 7-6 in the championship game.

It looked like the Bison were going to win their own tournament until late in the game.

“We struggled at times throughout the day, but the bottom line is that we went 3-0 and won the tournament,” Aquinas coach Paul Gahan said. “We were down three runs in our final at bat, when Jill Witter came through with a two run single,” Gahan said. “Then Macy Kobza had a great at bat, fouling off several pitches and drove in the game winning run with a drive to left field.”

The Monarchs also defeated O’Neill 5-3, and started the day defeating Lakeview by the same score.

“Kelsey Baer fought through some shoulder tightness and completed all three games in the circle,” Gahan said. “I am happy for the girls and proud of the way they persevered.”
