The David City girls basketball team dropped a home contest to Central City Jan.25 in David City. The Bison used a strong second half performance to defeat the Scouts 59-42.

“Central City has Gabi Moser and she is an all-state caliber guard,” David City coach Nathan Wall said. “We didn't have an answer for her defensively. Especially when our guards got into early foul trouble.”

Central City got on the board early with a three-pointer by Taryn Wagner. Senior Chaquoya Givens responded for David City with a layup to make it 3-2.

Wagner hit her second three of the game to put the Bison up by four. Olivia Couch came back with a jumper to cut the lead to 6-4.

Central City got back-to-back buckets from Gabrielle Moser and Jade Erickson. The Bison led 16-10 after a quarter.

David City had its best offensive showing in the second quarter. The Scouts held the Bison to 9 points while they scored 15.

Lauren Vandenberg’s layup and jumper helped cut the lead to four. Renee Backstrom hit a corner three to make it 18-17.

Later in the quarter, Macy Svoboda’s three and Givens' layup gave David City a 22-21 lead. At halftime, the score was knotted at 25.

The Bison took control early in the second half. Jade Erickson’s layup and three extended Central City’s lead to 34-25.

Heading to the fourth quarter the Bison had their largest lead at 42-30. The game was decided early in the quarter with a basket in transition by Moser and a corner three by Taryn Wagner.

Givens led the Scouts with 12 points. Olivia Couch and Svoboda each scored 9 points.

Gabrielle Moser led all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Erickson was the Bison’s second-leading scorer with 13 points.
