Tigers win “strange” contest over Mead

The East Butler boys basketball team came out of on top while only shooting 11 field goal attempts against Mead on Dec. 15.

“This was one of the strangest games I have been part of,” said East Butler coach Greg Jahde. “Only 45 shots the whole game. This would push for the installment of a shot clock. Definitely not the pace my team wants to play at, but I thought our guy s handled it well.”

The Raiders led 16-14 at halftime after holding the Tigers to only four points in the second quarter. The Tigers grabbed the lead with a 10-7 third quarter advantage.

“We finally got it more to our pace in the fourth quarter,” Jahde said. “It really came down to us only having 7 turnovers to their 10.”

Tigers down Hawks

The Tigers poured it on in the second half to protect their lead and fight off the surge of the Hampton Hawks at Hampton on Saturday.

After a couple of adjustments at halftime our offense started clicking,” coach Jahde said. “Our focus was to get it inside and get to the free throw line. We were able to do both. We had some issues defending the 3-point line. Overall I was pleased with our effort.”

Trevor Havlovic led his team with 21 points and countered the Hawks hot shooting C. Wochner, who made 7 of 10 3-pointers.

Havlovic had help from Jaden Rhynalds’ 18 points and Jacob Janak’s 12.

Three pointers weren’t enough for the Hawks, who shot 10-27 in two-pointers and were at 50 percent on free throws. Meanwhile the Tigers were shooting near 75 percent from the line and got there more often.
