Josh Seibert

David City's Josh Seibert looks to pass in the Feb. 8 game against Madison.

Cold Shooting in the second half doomed the David City boys basketball team Feb. 8 against Madison. After going toe to toe with the Dragons in the first half, the Scouts were outscored 35-19 in the second half of a 54-37 defeat.

“We really couldn't put anything together consistently on offense in either half, David City coach Cole Carraher said. “We did a nice job scoring inside in the first quarter but they seemed to tighten down in the paint after that and we turned it over trying to force it inside.”

Sammy Gloria scored the first points of the game to put Madison up 2-0.

David City answered with Will Danielson's a layup and a jumper by Nick Ruth. After a driving layup by Danielson, the Scouts led 10-4.

Keaton Hendren added a layup and three-pointer to pull the Dragons to back within two points.

Two three-pointers by Jason Gonzalez at the end of the first half helped propel Madison to a 19-18 halftime lead.

The Dragons added to their lead with a layup by Gloria. Three-pointers by Saldana and Gonzalez stretched Madison’s lead to double digits. David City's offence struggled in the third quarter. The Scouts' only baskets were  two treys by Danielson. At the end of three quarters, David City trailed 31-25.

Madison scored the first six points of the fourth quarter. Gabriel Romero’s two free throws made it 38-26. Four straight points by Josh Seibert pulled the Scouts back to within six at 38-32.

With time running out, David City elected to put the Dragons on the line. Gonzalez and Hendren both made a pair of free throws to make it 45-34. The Dragons ended the game on a 9-3 run.

Danielson led the Scouts with 15 points, while Ruth had 8 points. Gonzalez led Madison with a game-high 16 points. Fellow junior Hendren added 15 points. The Scouts wrap up the regular season at home against Clarkson/Leigh.
