Bluejays scorch Monarchs

The Aquinas girls basketball team fell to Guardian Angel Central Catholic 59-32 on Dec. 22.

After building a 15-9 lead to start the second quarter, the Bluejays poured in 24 points to lead 39-18 at halftime.

The Monarchs were not able to counter the Bluejays scoring attack shooting 24 percent in field goals. The Monarchs were 55 percent from the free throw line.

The Monarchs face Douglas County West in the David City Holiday Tournament. Game time is 2 p.m. Friday at David City High School

Huskies breeze past Storm

Shelby-Rising City improved to 2-5 after a 39-23 victory over High Plains on Tuesday.

After running to a 12-2 lead to start the second quarter, the Storm slowed down the Huskies’ scoring. However, the Storm couldn’t get out of the single digits in any quarter of the game.

The Huskies were led by Kamryn Pokorney and her double-double. She had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Sydnie Adams also had a big night with 8 points and 18 rebounds. Emily Neujahr was also in double figures with 10. High Plains was led by Maddie Young with 14 points.

The Huskies will open with Clarkson-Leigh in the S-RC Holiday Tournament at 5:30 on Thursday, Dec. 28. Friend and Arcadia-Loup City play at 2 p.m.
