Shelby-Rising City ended its season Monday night, losing to Centennial in the first round of the C2-6 sub-district tournament at Aquinas.
Throughout the evening the Huskies struggled to slow down the Broncos on the offensive side of the ball. As a result, Shelby-Rising City was left playing from behind most of the match.
The first set went back and forth, as both teams looked for early control. The Huskies used an aggressive attack to build the early 13-10 lead. Later, down 22-19, Shelby-Rising City scored six of the final seven points to win the first set 25-23.
After blowing a lead in the first set, Centennial came out firing in the second. The Huskies had no answer for the Bronco offense and fell 25-19.
Centennial followed up its second set, with an even more dominant performance in the third set. The Broncos pulled out to an 11-7 lead, before eventually winning 25-17.
Riding the momentum Centennial cemented its victory in the final set. The Broncos built leads of 10-5 and 16-7, before eventually winning 25-15. After their impressive rally in the first set, the Huskies struggled to find consistency throughout the rest of the match.
Shelby-Rising City ended the season with a record of 11-20. Leaders for the Huskies were Sydney Adams with 11 kills and Jamie Hopwood with 17 digs.
Cross County held off Twin River 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 15-2 to move on to face No. 2 Nebraska Christian in Tuesday's final. Alexis Eller had 18 kills followed by Cortlyn Schaefer with 17 in the match against the Titans. Claire Harless added 47 set assists and four ace serves.
