The Shelby-Rising City girls basketball team held off the charge by the Arcadia-Loup City Rebels to take third place in the S-RC Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29.

Clutch free throws by Emily Neujahr helped to seal the 37-33 win after the Rebels had pulled to within a basket late in the game.

The two teams were tied 28-28 going into the fourth quarter and got some breathing room on  Neujahr’s three pointer, her second of the game.

Sydnie Adams led the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Neujahr added 12 points.

S-RC (3-6) plays Friday at Class D-2, No. 2 Exeter-Milligan.

Patriots pull away from Huskies

Clarkson-Leigh pulled away from Shelby-Rising City down the stretch Dec. 28 for a 45-34 victory to open the Shelby-Rising Holiday Tournament.

The Patriots outscored the Huskies 12-3 in the final eight minutes after entering the fourth quarter with a 33-31 advantage.

Emily Neujahr led the Huskies with 11 points and Sydnie Adams added 9.

Ashlynn Novotny scored 14 points to lead Clarkson/Leigh (7-3).
