David City dropped its second game of the season to Schuyler Dec. 15 at home. The Warriors built an early lead, and never looked back in a 55-49 victory.
“Overall, I was happy with the way we played and effort we gave in coming from down as many as 13 and cutting it to 4 with a few minutes left,” David City boys basketball coach Cole Carraher said. “We had a couple of opportunities to get it from 4 to 2 or even down to 1...but couldn't get those shots to fall.”
Mason Kovar’s three with 5:30 remaining gave Schuyler a 3-0 lead. Austin Hall added a layup to make it 5-0.
Josh Seibert kept the Scouts in the game with three 3-pointers. The Warriors led 13-10 to start the second quarter.
Austin Hall picked up where he left off with a rebound and layup to make it 15-10. Younger brother Easton Hall’s back- to-back baskets put Schuyler in front 24-11.
“I thought Schuyler took advantage -Austin Hall in particular- of their size really well, especially late in the game,” Carraher said.” “When Hall decided he wanted to get to the basket, he was going to get there.”
David City made a 7-2 run to close the gap. Colin Vandenberg’s three with 20 seconds left made the score 26-18 at halftime.
The Scouts kept chipping away at the lead to begin the third quarter. Nick Ruth and Vandenberg’s layups made it 26-22.
Schuyler responded with a three from Jakub Langemeier and a layup by Austin Hall.
The Warriors started the fourth quarter with a 38-30 lead.
The scoring went back and forth in the final frame, but Schuyler secured the victory at the free throw line. Luis Salazar led the Scouts with 17 points. Josh Seibert added 11.
The Warriors Austin Hall led all scorers with 20 points, and Kovar scored 19.
