The David City boys basketball team struggled offensively Jan.25 at home against Central City. The Scouts were held to their lowest point total of the season in a 47-22 defeat.
“Central City's length really bothered us last night, particularly on the offensive end”, David City coach Cole Carraher said. “We did a nice job scoring in the second quarter by getting position underneath and hitting some mid-range shots, but those looks didn't fall for us coming out in the third quarter.”
Things went south from the start for David City. The Bison came out on fire from three-point range.
Ethan DeBoer knocked down a three to put Central City up 3-0. On the next possession, Josiah Ohlman hit a three.
DeBoer knocked down two more baskets from beyond the arch before the Scouts called timeout. With over five minutes left in the first quarter, David City found themselves in a 12-0 hole.
Josh Seibert’s driving layup scored the Scouts first points of the game. Luis Salazar added two baskets to make it 14-6.
At the end of the first quarter, the Scouts trailed 16-8.
David City warmed up with back-to-back layups by Will Danielson. Josh Seibert’s mid-range jumper cut the lead to 18-14.
Central City responded with two layups by Trent Wilson to build the lead to 24-17 at halftime.
Ohlman’s three-pointer extended the lead back out to double digits. His reverse layup on the next possession made the score 31-20.
Heading to the final frame the Bison led 39-20.
Both teams struggled to control the ball in the final period. In the end, Central City outscored David City 8-2 to secure the victory.
“We just need to get back to what helped us win four games in a row prior to this Central City game,” Carraher said. “That happened by playing hard and rebounding at the defensive end of the court, and limiting our turnovers and taking good shots on the other end.”
Danielson and Seibert led the Scouts with 7 points apiece, followed by Luis Salazar with 5 points.
Ohlman had a game-high 15 points for the Bison. Second on the team was DeBoer with 14 points.
