The David City volleyball team took some steps forward in 2017.
“We ended the season 12-17 which was a huge improvement from last year,” said coach Emily Maresh. “I felt as our team had better chemistry than we did last year and with chemistry the team works better together in all aspects. These girls understood their roles on the team which helped tremendously. There were many matches that we were' in' which could have easily flipped our record.”
Most valuable players for the Scouts was Olivia Couch, while Lauren Vandenberg was voted Most Improved Player.
Southern Nebraska Conference honors went to Olivia Couch, second team all-conference, and Payton Andel, honorable mention.
Allie Daro received the 3-D Award(Dedication, Desire, Determination). Lauren Hoeft made the All-State Unsung Senior Team.
“I felt that our seniors took on some good leadership roles and helped lead the huge freshman class this year. These girls understood their roles, whether they were on the court or the bench, which helped tremendously. Overall as a team I feel that the girls understand the game of volleyball more which ultimately helps them play the game.”
The Scouts lose six seniors this year and will have many spots to fill for 2018.
“I am excited to see what the returners will bring to the court. We will need to really work on our serve receive so we can run an offense. This was a big weakness this year as we were out of system a lot,” Maresh said.
