The David City-East Butler- Shelby-Rising City softball team needed a couple rallies to defeat Boone Central-Newman Grove Tuesday at the David City Ball Fields. The Scouts won 10-8 after bringing in 10 runs in two late innings.

Defense and pitching kept the Scouts in the ball game through the first four innings. The Cardinals scored a run in the second inning and added two in the third for a 3-0 lead.

“For the first four innings our bats were silent,” Scouts coach Greg Jahde said. “After that they woke up in a big way with a number of big hits. Abby Pierce, Debby White and Kaitlyn Hain each had two hits.”

In the fifth inning the Scout bats came to life. “We had three huge doubles and used aggressive base running to open the lead,” Jahde said. “Unfortunately we gave it back and had to do it again in the sixth.”

The Cardinals got hot in the sixth inning, bringing in five runs. The Scouts brought in two more runs in the sixth and held the score through the top of the seventh.

Both teams recorded nine hits and five errors. Aspyn Harrison was the winning pitcher for the Scouts.

“Fortunately we came out with the win. This team doesn’t quit. Hopefully we can keep things going,” Jahde said.
