The David City boys basketball team’s offense never got going, while Milford was clicking on all cylinders. The result was a 70-31 win for the Eagles Jan. 6 on the Scouts home court.
“We came out really flat and didn't seem to do much to change that effort or energy level at any point throughout the game,” David City coach Cole Carraher said. “When you combine that with playing an opponent that is as good as Milford is, you get the result we had tonight.”
The Eagles scored the first 10 points, behind three-pointers by Bragan Meyer and Nate Mensik.
Josh Seibert’s corner three made the score 10-3. Nick Ruth added a layup to make it 16-5.
At the end of the first quarter, the Scouts trailed 22-11.
Milford’s shot up top by Jacob Bitterman, helped the Eagles pick up where they left off. Meyer made a layup and Grant Jakub hit a mid-range jumper to put the Eagles up 30-11.
Meyer hit his second three to extend the lead to 36-12.
Going into halftime the Eagles had a 39-15 lead.
David City’s Colin Vandenberg had the first points of the second half with a corner two. Later he got a rebound and layup to make the score 44-19.
David City outscored Milford 10-9 in the final period, but it was too little, too late.
Vandenberg led David City with 8 points. Ruth and Danielson each added 6.
Milford’s Meyer led all scorers with 27 points, followed by Bitterman’s 15.
The Scouts next game is at Raymond Central (2-8).
