The David City girls basketball team showed it could fight before dropping a home conference game to Milford Jan.6. The Eagles built a big third quarter lead before outlasting the Scouts 58-51.
“Milford is a very talented squad, and we gave them all they wanted with us being in the game to the very end,” David City coach Nathan Wall said. “We played our best game of the year so far.”
Tyra Aschoff’s layup and free throw gave Milford the lead at 3-0 and Sydney Bontrager’s basket made it 5-0.
David City’s Chaquoya Givens responded with a layup and foul. After the made free throw the Scouts trailed 5-3.

Heading to the second quarter the score was tied at twelve apiece.
“It was positive to see us get off to a strong start and match them blow for blow,” Wall said.
The Scouts took the lead at 13-12 on a free throw by Lauren Vandenberg.
Milford’s Aschoff forced a turnover and converted a layup in transition. Grace Lenz’s two foul shots put the Eagles ahead 18-15.
