Monarchs defeat Lakeview

The Aquinas softball team defeated Lakeview 7-5 on Sept. 12

The Monarchs had a big crowd on hand to see a very competitive game.

"We gave up a five spot in the fourth inning to make it a one run game," said Monarchs coach Paul Gahan. "Our team responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to two. Then, the defense stiffened and held Lakeview scoreless the remaining three innings. It was a nice win for our team.

Wolverines rally to top Scouts

The David City-East Butler-Shelby-Rising City softball team came up a run short against host Wilber-Clatonia on Sept. 12.

“This loss was disappointing because I felt we beat ourselves with physical and mental mistakes in the sixth inning,” said Scouts coach Greg Jahde. “Too often lately we have let one big inning cost us the game. We have to find a way to do better.”

The Scouts got out to a 2-run lead and limited the Wolverines to single runs in the second and fourth innings. After taking the lead 3-2 in the fifth, the Scouts gave up four runs in the sixth inning. A rally for two runs in the seventh inning fell short.
