D-1 No. 10 East Butler prevailed over Nebraska Lutheran 46-32 Wednesday in Shelby in a back-and-forth game in a Class D-1 playoff game.

The Tigers captured an early 16-0 lead after the first quarter before the Knights scored 14 consecutive points. The two teams continued to trade blows, including a 34-yard fumble return for a score by Nolan Makovicka, immediately followed by a 78-yard kickoff return by Kyle Richert. But East Butler closed the game out defensively in the second half.

"Scoring first and jumping out to the lead was huge. This was a back-and-forth game throughout. We just had some guys that made big plays down the line and the defense finished it off for us," East Butler head coach Shawn Biltoft said.

Dalton Bohac led the Tigers with 29 carries for 90 yards as well as going 16-for-24 passing with 193 yards and three touchdowns. Trevor Havlovic had nine receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Havlovic added six carries for 19 yards and a score. Nebraska Lutheran's Ben Riegsecker had 28 carries for 130 yards. Richert finished 3-of-12 passing with 56 yards and two touchdowns and scored one more on the ground.

East Butler (8-2) will play at Creighton (10-0) on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

"Being able to stop the run will be important for us. We've been able to run and pass well all year, but we will get better this week and prepare well for a good Creighton team," Biltoft said.
