The East Butler volleyball started the season with a home victory over Dorchester on Aug. 24.

“This was a hard fought match between two evenly matched teams,” said East Butler coach Karmen Widick. “It was great to start the season with a win.”

The teams traded wins and the Tigers mustered a 15-12 win in the fifth set.

The Tigers won, 26-24, 211-25,25-19,13-25, 15-12.

“The girls played with a lot of heart and determination as was evidenced in the third set when we were down 2-10 and came back to win. It would have been really easy for them to give up at that point, but they didn't,” Widick said.

The Tigers spread the ball around and took advantage of opportunities to score.

“We had a pretty balanced attack with three hitters getting over 20 swings. We have been stressing the importance of the first contact whether it is serving or passing, and the girls are doing a great job of focusing on those two aspects,” Widick said. “They realize that without consistent passing and serving, nothing else will work well. With the schedule we play, each win will be difficult to get so this first win should be a confidence booster for our team.”

The Tigers play Thursday at the Giltner Triangular and Sept. 2 at the Weeping Water Tournament.
