Monarchs fall to GICC

The Aquinas volleyball team challenged the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders in the first set before falling 3-0. GICC won 26-24, 25-15, 25-10.

The Monarchs managed just five blocks and 19 kills. The Monarchs had to go without the help of Kloe Ruth because of injury.

”We played well at times, but had trouble playing coverage behind our hitters and blockers which allowed GICC to score on tips,” Aquinas coach Jody Pelan said. “We should’ve been able to make that adjustment, but we played flat-footed at times, and good teams are certainly going to expose that weakness of playing inconsistently.”

Improved Crusaders sweep Monarchs

Lincoln Christian hosted the Monarchs on Oct. 26 and came away with a sweep, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-9.

“We started off playing well, but once Christian got their block going, we got frustrated offensively, and began struggling on serve receive, too. If you can’t pass, you can’t play volleyball,” Pelan said. “Give credit to Lincoln Christian, they have lots of weapons, and they are a much improved team from where they were earlier in the season.”

Tigers fall to Hampton, McCool Junction

The East Butler Volleyball team dropped two games Oct. 24 at the McCool Junction Triangular.

McCool Junction defeated the Tigers 25-18 and 25-23. Hampton won 25-17 and 25-13.

“We had a great opportunity to get a win against McCool Junction and got in our own way,” said East Butler coach Karmen Widick. “We had four serving errors in a set we lost by 2 points and had too many unforced attack errors. We have been stressing that there are times we just have to keep the ball in play but that is not carrying over from practice to the games. We played pretty well in the first set in the match against Hampton. We were neck and neck with them until about the halfway point and then we gave up a five or six point run and weren't able to come back from that.”
