COLUMBUS — Steve Czarnik of Genoa is retiring from Loup Public Power District after 29 years.

Czarnik joined Loup in 1988 as a maintenance man at the Genoa Headworks. He was promoted to equipment operator in 1991 and became dredge operator in 1997. He was promoted to heavy equipment operator in 1998.

As heavy equipment operator, Czarnik’s duties consisted primarily of operation and maintenance of the heavy equipment at Loup’s Genoa Headworks. He also helped maintain the Loup Power Canal.

Czarnik is a graduate of Genoa High School. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in diesel mechanics from Southeast Community College in Milford.

Czarnik and his wife, Sue, are the parents of three children, Heather, Ryan and Eric. They have three granddaughters, Ashlyn, Audrey and Abigail.
