Apply for Citizens' Police Academy

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Police Department is accepting applications for its annual Citizens' Police Academy.

The 14-week course is a combination of classroom training and hands-on experience. The sessions will meet from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 10-April 18 at the police department. Maximum class size is 18, and participants must meet minimum qualifications and pass a background investigation.

Applications are due by Dec. 31, and are available at the Columbus Police Department, 2419 14th St. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and successful candidates will be notified.

Business hosting food drive

COLUMBUS -- Anytime Fitness will host a food drive through Friday.

Members and the general public are invited to drop off nonperishable items to the club during this time. The local drive will go to the Platte County Food Pantry.

Columbus residents are also invited to share their own #BurnTheTurkey ideas on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For each original photo or video submitted using the hashtag #BurnTheTurkey, Anytime Fitness will donate one meal to Feeding America to help families in need this holiday season.

Thanksgiving service at St. John’s

Loup holiday cookbooks out

COLUMBUS -- Loup Public Power District’s complimentary holiday cookbooks are now available to customers.

The cookbook features favorite recipes submitted by Loup Public Power employees, retirees, board members and spouses.

The cookbook is available at Loup offices in Albion, Clarkson, Columbus, Fullerton, Genoa, Humphrey, Newman Grove and St. Edward. Cookbooks are also available at the Belgrade Post Office, Cedar Rapids Bank, Citizens State Bank in Creston, Duncan Post Office, Howells City Office, Leigh City Office, Bank of Lindsay, Cornerstone Bank in Monroe, Petersburg State Bank, Bank of the Valley in Platte Center, Cooperative Supply in Richland and Schuyler Department of Utilities.

Alzheimer’s group meeting

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Alzheimer's/Dementia Support Group will meet 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Columbus Community Center, 3111 29th St.

Musical comedy part of Big Give

ALBION -- The Boone County Historical Society Performing Arts Remodel Committee will present area actors and musicians in the musical comedy revue "Hee Flaw 2.0" at 7 p.m. Nov. 27-28 in the Boone Central performance gym.
