Mountain oyster feed at VFW
COLUMBUS -- The annual mountain oyster feed will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the VFW.

Cookie sale part of Stroll
COLUMBUS -- Federated Church will host its annual Cookies and More sale from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 16 during the Downtown Christmas Stroll.
Homemade cookies and candies will be available for purchase in the church hall, 2704 15th St. There will also be free snacks, beverages and door prizes.
Overnight casino trip planned
SCHUYLER -- The Colfax County Senior Center in Schuyler is planning a two-day holiday bus trip fundraiser Dec. 4-5.
Cost is $65 per person for double occupancy or $75 for single occupancy, with reservations and payments due by Nov. 17. The first night will be at WinnaVegas Casino with Day 2 at the Blackbird Casino. There will be many perks at both casinos, vouchers, points and specials on food.

Transfer station seasonal hours
COLUMBUS -- The yard waste site at the Columbus transfer station will close at 5 p.m. through Nov. 30.
Winter season hours will begin Dec. 1. Those hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Mobile unit offers screenings
COLUMBUS -- The Hy-Vee Healthy You mobile unit will be at the Columbus Wellness Center, 3912 38th St., from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday to offer health and wellness screenings to the community.
Screenings include blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides, as well as blood pressure screenings and body fat measurements. Individuals must be 18 years old or older for the wellness profile screenings and a 12-hour fast is recommended. To register for lab work screenings, call 402-562-4490. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Free blood pressure and bone mineral density screening will also be offered at the Hy-Vee Healthy You mobile, as well as nutritional education. No appointments are needed for these services.

Holiday open house at CCH
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Community Hospital volunteers will host their 16th annual holiday open house from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the hospital's third-floor conference center.
The open house will feature holiday entertaining and serving items, pepper jellies, dip mixes, children’s Christmas books, holiday items, women’s shawls and mittens and baby clothes and accessories. Refreshments will be served.
Proceeds from this event fund medical equipment and program advancement purchases.
