Kettle campaign begins Friday

COLUMBUS -- The Salvation Army will begin its Red Kettle Campaign on Friday.

PD focusing on seat belts

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Police Department will conduct the Click It or Ticket safety belt campaign Nov. 20-26.

The department has been awarded a $2,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to pay for overtime enforcement, extra patrols and traffic checkpoints. The goal of this enforcement is to raise the seat belt usage rate from a current 60 percent to over 83 percent.

As a reminder, drivers and front-seat passengers are required to wear a seat belt. Adults 18 years and older seated in the back seat are exempt from wearing a seat belt unless the driver possesses a school, learner's or provisional operator’s permit. All children ages 5 and younger must be in a child restraint system.
