Square-dancing at local VFW

COLUMBUS -- Harold's Squares Square Dance Club of Columbus will be dancing 5:30-7:30 Sunday at the VFW, 2720 23rd St.

NFB holding monthly meeting

COLUMBUS -- The National Federation of the Blind will hold its next meeting 3-4 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Eagles Club.

Register for nursing program

COLUMBUS -- Registration is open for a nursing assistant class that will be held Monday-Nov. 13 at Central Community College-Columbus.

Students must attend a mandatory orientation session, but class hours are flexible. Class is limited to the first 15 individuals who register. The cost is $395, which includes in-state tuition, fees and books.

Oktoberfest dinner at church

COLUMBUS -- St. John’s Lutheran Church, 39452 205th Ave., will host an Oktoberfest German dinner from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

The menu includes traditional German food, including bratwurst, eisbein, German meatballs, potato salad and desserts. Cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10 and free for kids 4 and younger. Tickets are available at the door, or call 402-910-1653 for advance tickets. Takeout will also be available by calling 402-285-0335. Proceeds will support various church and school projects.

AG's mobile office in town

COLUMBUS -- The Nebraska Attorney General’s Mobile Office will be in Columbus from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Columbus Community Center, 3111 19th St.

Attorney General Doug Peterson is expected to visit the mobile office during the day. Staff will be available to assist consumers with requesting free credit reports, registering for the national do not call/do not mail registries, requesting a security freeze, blocking scam calls and reporting scams, among other information.

Group holding clothing drive

SCHUYLER -- The Women of Divine Mercy will sponsor the annual community clothing drive on Oct. 27-28 at St. Augustine Hall, 604 Chicago St.

Donations of clean, gently used clothing will be accepted from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 26. Hours for the sale are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 27 and 8-11 a.m. Oct. 28. All clothing will be 50 cents and coats will cost $1.
