Palmer fills open board seat

COLUMBUS — A rural St. Edward man has been appointed to fill an open seat on the Cornhusker Public Power District Board of Directors.

Mark Palmer was appointed to the Subdivision 3 seat last month and took the oath of office Monday morning. Palmer replaces Ray Merrell, who passed away in June, on the board, representing portions of Boone and Platte counties.

Palmer is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He took over his father’s optometry practice in 1974 and opened clinics in Fullerton and Neligh in the late 1980s. The practice merged with Eye Physicians P.C. in 2000.

Palmer is a member of the United Methodist Church in Albion. He and his wife, Patricia, have three children and eight-grandchildren.
