Motorcyclist killed in crash

A semitrailer collided head-on with a motorcycle Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 81, killing a 26-year-old Lincoln man.

According to the Butler County Sheriff's Office, 30-year-old Jeremy Root of Hastings was traveling south on the highway when his semi crossed the centerline and struck the northbound motorcycle driven by Arez Karim.

Karim was killed in the crash, which occurred around 7:15 a.m. just north of the Highway 81-Highway 92 junction.

The sheriff's office says alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash, but rainfall occurring at the time likely was.

The crash is being investigated by the sheriff's offices in Butler and Polk counties and Nebraska State Patrol.
