CPD completes special campaign

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Police Department recently completed its participation in the nationwide “You Drink & Drive. You Lose.” campaign that ran from Aug. 18-Sept. 4.

During that time, the police department made 18 arrests for various offenses including driving under the influence, driving under suspension, drug violations, wanted persons and weapons violations. The police department also issued a total of 59 citations and 150 written warnings.

The police department was awarded a $4,465 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to pay for overtime expenses.

Habitat dedicating newest home

COLUMBUS -- Habitat for Humanity of Columbus will be celebrating the completion of its sixth house with new homeowner Stacey Gronenthal and her family at 11 a.m. Sept. 30.

A light lunch will be provided and those attending the dedication will have the opportunity to tour the home located at 1358 45th Ave. Major sponsors for this home were Thrivent Financial, Cargill, B-D Construction, First National Bank, BD Medical and Pinnacle Bank.

Alzheimer’s group meeting

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group will meet 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Columbus Family Resource Center, 3111 19th St.

Adam Lassen will present information about Medicare open enrollment.

Medication aide course offered

COLUMBUS -- Central Community College-Columbus is currently accepting registration for a medication aide course.

The class is offered in a lecture/lab format. Students must attend orientation from 1-2 p.m. Sept. 29 as well as 12 mandatory class sessions from 1-5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Sept. 29-Oct. 27. Class is limited to the first 12 students who register and pay for a space. The cost is $372, which includes in-state tuition and fees, textbook and supplies.

N-PACE open house at Central

COLUMBUS -- The public is invited to the Nebraska Precision Ag Center for Excellence (N-PACE) open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 4 in the North Education Center, Room 959, at Central Community College-Columbus.

Attendees will have a chance to learn about the use of high-precision positioning systems for achieving accuracy in their fields; drones for productively and precisely caring for a field; sensors and remote sensing for collecting data on soil, water and crop health; and geomapping for producing maps on soil type and nutrient levels in a field. Drone-flying demonstrations will be held from 11 a.m.-noon. Individuals may bring their lunch.
