Meeting focuses on trail funding
COLUMBUS -- Those interested in trails for biking and walking are invited to attend the Columbus Area Recreational Trails meeting (CART) at 5:15 p.m. today at Dusters in the upstairs conference room.
The topic will be fund allocations for a new trail.
CCH hosting health fair
COLUMBUS -- The 14th annual Tune-Up for Life Community Health Fair will be held 7-11 a.m. Saturday at the Columbus Wellness Center.
This event is open to the public and offers a number of free and discounted health screenings and services. Free screenings include blood pressure, body composition, bone density, colorectal cancer, flexibility, hearing, vision and strength. There will also be several free classes and admittance to the YMCA. Bryan Health will offer mobile screening services for a minimal fee for atrial fibrillation, arterial disease, abdominal aortic ultrasound and carotid artery ultrasound.

Register for med aide course
COLUMBUS -- Registration is open for a medication aide course at Central Community College-Columbus.
The class is offered in a lecture/lab format. Students must attend orientation from 1-2 p.m. Friday as well as 12 mandatory class sessions from 1-5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Sept. 11 through Oct. 6. The class is limited to the first 12 students who register and pay for a space. The cost is $372, which includes in-state tuition and fees, textbook and supplies.

Local hospital holding sale
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Community Hospital Volunteers will host a Collective Goods Flash Sale from 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Friday in the hospital’s third-floor conference center.
The sale will feature many types of books including children’s, cookbooks, early learning titles, gifts, toys and stationary. All major credit and debit cards, cash, checks and post-dated checks will be accepted. Proceeds will be used to help fund medical equipment and program advancement purchases at the hospital.

Tire recycling event planned
COLUMBUS -- A scrap tire recycling event will be held the weekend of Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in the northwest parking lot of Platte County Agricultural Park.
Hours for the collection are 5-8 p.m. Sept. 29, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 30 and noon-3 p.m. Oct. 1. No rims or dealer tires will be accepted.
