Learn tricks for couponing

COLUMBUS -- Learn about couponing during a workshop at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at Columbus Public Library.

Nicole McDonald, author of “The Extraordinary Art of Couponing,” will explain how to find the best deals for beginners and experienced coupon users. She will use information from local stores so the workshop will be tailored to a local audience.

Tire recycling event planned

COLUMBUS -- A scrap tire recycling event will be held Friday through Sunday in the northwest parking lot of Platte County Agricultural Park.

Hours for the collection are 5-8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday. No rims or dealer tires will be accepted.

Medication aide course offered

COLUMBUS -- Central Community College-Columbus is currently accepting registration for a medication aide course.

The class is offered in a lecture/lab format. Students must attend orientation from 1-2 p.m. Friday as well as 12 mandatory class sessions from 1-5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Oct. 27. Class is limited to the first 12 students who register and pay for a space. The cost is $372, which includes in-state tuition and fees, textbook and supplies.

Backflow training course offered

COLUMBUS -- A backflow recertification training course will be offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 5 in the West Education Center, Room 177, at Central Community College-Columbus.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The course will cover testing issues, regulatory requirements for installation, customer complaints and cross-connection control programs. Preregistration is open through Thursday. Class size is limited, so individuals are encouraged to preregister early. The cost is $85. Continuing education hours will be awarded by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Habitat dedicating newest home

COLUMBUS -- Habitat for Humanity of Columbus will be celebrating the completion of its sixth house with new homeowner Stacey Gronenthal and her family at 11 a.m. Saturday.

A light lunch will be provided and those attending the dedication will have the opportunity to tour the home located at 1358 45th Ave. Major sponsors for this home were Thrivent Financial, Cargill, B-D Construction, First National Bank, BD Medical and Pinnacle Bank.
