Lakeview JH honors list

COLUMBUS -- Lakeview Junior High has announced students earning placement on the honor roll for the first quarter of the 2017-18 academic year.

Elks Teens of the Month

COLUMBUS -- Elks Country Club has announced its first students of the month for the school year.

Kendra Marie-Ren Wiese, a senior at Scotus Central Catholic and the daughter of Gerry and Christine Wiese of Columbus, plays girls golf, basketball and soccer and is a member of the National Honor Society, currently serving as an officer. She is also involved in the Godparents program, serves as a Eucharistic minister and helps with vacation Bible school and the American Red Cross blood drives. In her free time she enjoys golfing, playing soccer and basketball, running, cooking, biking, playing cards, spending time with friends and helping at the farm.

Derek Michael Voigt, the son of Kerry and Michelle Voigt of Osceola, is a senior at Osceola High School. He is team captain of the football team and also participates in track and field and play production. He is the team captain for speech, the math/engineering team and Quiz Bowl and is president of Students with Awesome Goals, student council and the National Honor Society. In his free time he enjoys watching college football, golfing and playing pitch.

Concordia musicians perform recital

SEWARD -- Concordia University will hold its fall composer recital at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 and its fall honor recital at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the recital hall of the Music Center on campus.

Eight students composed original pieces for the composer recital. Among those performing are the following students from area communities: Columbus - Paige Stadler, junior, soprano performing in “Amid the Silence;" Allison Mackie, senior, organ performances in "Fanfare in B minor for Piano and Organ" and "Zephaniah Responses: I. Fear Not, II. In your midst, III. He will Rejoice, IV. Daughter of Jerusalem." Mackie will also perform in the honor recital playing "Toccata" by Eugene Gigout on the organ.
