A 26-year-old Pawnee City man died in a crash near Auburn on Saturday night, the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office said.

Travis Ries was a passenger in a Mazda Tribute that was attempting to pass a northbound Dodge Durango on U.S. 75 north of Auburn when the Durango turned left into the Tribute, according to the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office.

Ries and another passenger were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the Tribute, which was driven by 25-year-old Heather Spurlin of Pawnee City. Ries was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The driver of the Durango, 51-year-old Monty R. Eaton of rural Brock, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and motor vehicle homicide, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
