COLUMBUS-- Sunday afternoon was met with agreeable temperatures and some of the first bird songs of the New Year. Another joyful sound could be heard from the Fine Arts Center at Central Community College.

The campus held its first concert of the season which featured the musical stylings of the Hilltop Winds and the Central Community College Concert Band. Anthony Burnham directed the ensembles.

“I’m pretty new to the school, but I am already so proud of how far our musicians have come,” Burnham said.

Burnham went on to explain that the Hilltop Winds ensemble is another new asset to the CCC music department.

The Hilltop Winds kicked off the afternoon with fresh sounds of talent through their instruments of choice. The group told their audience the story of song through composers, Gabriel Faure, Vienna Ten and even John Lennon with trusted comrade, Paul McCartney.

Following the septet was the CCC Concert Band that boasts performers from not only the college, but also members of the community. The 25 member band performed a variety of musical suites such as two energetic marches, a contemporary piece by Richard Saucedo and even a melodic rendition of Disney songs.

Burnham said all members of the community are welcome to join the band as long as the Tuesday night rehearsals from 7-9:30 p.m. can be fit into the aspiring musician’s schedules.
