CCH launches dietitian program
COLUMBUS — Columbus Community Hospital is offering a new educational program called “Ask the Dietitian.”
The program includes a series of free classes that will give community members the opportunity to interact with a nutrition professional and get their health questions answered.
Beginning Jan. 12, the classes will be held in Columbus Wellness Center’s multipurpose room. A CCH dietitian will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to discuss nutrition-related topics. That expert will be available for questions following each discussion. There is no cost to attend.

City offices closed for holiday
COLUMBUS — Some city of Columbus departments will be closed at various times in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.
All departments located in City Hall will be closed Monday.
Columbus Public Library will be open 1:30-5 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday.
Columbus Area Transit and animal control will be closed Sunday and Monday.
Columbus Aquatic Center will be closed Sunday and Monday. There will be extended open swim hours during school winter break. Contact the aquatic center at 402-563-3222 for more information.
The transfer station will be open for regular business on Saturday and be closed Sunday and Monday.
Quail Run Golf Course will be closed during the month of January and will reopen in February, weather permitting. Van Berg Golf Course will remain open throughout the winter, weather permitting.
Musical pancake feed at church
COLUMBUS — A musical Christmas pancake feed fundraiser will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Word of Life Church, 3701 23rd St.
Pancakes will be served from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with musical performances from 6-8 p.m.
The event benefits Columbus Rescue Mission and Youth for Christ.
Man arrested for murders
OMAHA (AP) — A man suspected in a triple homicide in Nebraska who served prison time for killing his wife in 1998 was captured in western Tennessee on Wednesday, a day after his parents and niece were found dead in Omaha, authorities said.
John Dalton Jr., 46, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service without incident on Interstate 40 in Jackson, Tennessee, the agency told Tennessee news station WBBJ-TV.
