COLUMBUS — Columbus Public Schools Superintendent Troy Loeffelholz will get a $7,000 increase to his annual salary during the first year of a three-year revolving contract that kicks in this summer.

Loeffelholz will receive a salary of $215,925 for the 2018-19 school year, a 3.3 percent increase from the $208,925 he'll earn this year.

The superintendent urged the school board to hold off setting salaries for the second and third years of the contract, 2019-20 and 2020-21, because of uncertainty about what state lawmakers have in store for school districts if changes are made to the state aid to education formula.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen,” David Melick, executive director of business operations and human relations for CPS, said during Monday evening’s school board meeting.

Loeffelholz’s total salary and benefits package for the first year of the upcoming contract, which runs annually from July 1 to June 30, will be $281,807, a 3 percent increase from the current amount of $273,523.

The benefit costs paid by the district include such things as health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, and shares of retirement, Social Security and Medicare.

Loeffelholz, 53, will be completing his eighth year as the district's superintendent at the end of this year. The former Hastings Public Schools administrator began his career in education 30 years ago.
