DAVID CITY — A fire caused significant damage to a David City apartment Wednesday night and displaced residents of the other units inside the building.

Firefighters were called to the apartment building on the northwest corner of Sixth and Iowa streets around 6:30 p.m. The southwest apartment in the lower level of the building sustained heavy damage, according to David City Fire Chief Matt Hilger.

Hilger said the rest of the apartments in the building had minor smoke damage.

"The guys did a great job on a quick initial attack," Hilger said.

An investigator from the State Fire Marshal's Office was interviewing residents after the David City Volunteer Fire Department had the flames extinguished within minutes of arriving. A cause has not been determined and no injuries were reported.

The Bellwood and Brainard volunteer fire departments provided assistance.
