COLUMBUS — A 23-year-old Columbus man was seriously injured Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross 33rd Avenue.
According to a Columbus Police report, 68-year-old Patricia Dasher was southbound on 33rd Avenue when she hit Scott Staroscik, 23, who was in the crosswalk at the 16th Street intersection.
The Columbus woman told police she was looking in her rear view mirror and didn’t see Staroscik until her 2002 Ford Focus station wagon struck him.
Multiple witnesses reported Dasher had a red light when the 8:08 p.m. accident occurred. She was cited for a traffic signal violation.
Staroscik was transported by ambulance to Columbus Community Hospital with a broken leg and other non-life threatening injuries.
According to a family member, Staroscik underwent a surgery to insert a metal rod in the broken leg and will need skin grafting.
He remains hospitalized in Columbus. Dasher’s vehicle sustained $1,000 in damages.
