Donald Lowther

BELLWOOD - Donald Lowther, 77, of Bellwood, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at his home at Bellwood Lakes.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Michael Klatt officiating.

There will be no visitation. Private family interment will be at a later date.

Donald Lowther was born  Feb. 3, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, to C. Ross and Dollie (Discus) Lowther.  He received his education in the Missouri Valley, Iowa, area where he grew up and worked on the family farm.  On Nov. 3, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Mary Kirchmann in Fremont. The couple lived in the Fremont and North Bend area where he did forestry work. On Feb. 21, 1989, Donald married Linda Poppe in West Point. They moved to Columbus in 1994 and in 1999, moved to their current home at Bellwood Lakes. Prior to his retirement, Donald worked part time for Country Side Homes and College View Trailer Court. Donald's love for his wife was apparent by all who knew him. He enjoyed his time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and was known as "Grandpa" by all who knew him. He loved to fish, camp, do remodeling work, wood working and the outdoors. He was an honest, straight shooting man.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda Lowther, of Bellwood; son, Ken (Lenice) Lowther, of Fremont; son, Steven (Michelle) Lowther, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son, Chuck (Anita Delmar) Lowther, of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Melea (Bobby) McKinzie, of Elizabeth, Colo.; son, Gary Lowther, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Jodi Covert, of Columbus; son, Joe (Karen) Sullivan, of Columbus; son, Brian (Kim) Lowther, of Bellwood; son, Mark (Karon) Lowther, of Bellwood; brother, William (Betty) Lowther, of Fremont; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many extended family member who called him "Grandpa"

  Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Dollie Lowther; three sisters; and five brothers.
