Belva Forsberg

COLUMBUS — Belva J. Forsberg, 85, of Columbus, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Belva J. Forsberg was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Pierce to Alfred and Lena (Brockman) Manske. She graduated from Wakefield High School and attended Wayne State College for two years. Belva taught country school for two years prior to her marriage to Dale Forsberg on May 5, 1952, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. The couple moved to South Norfolk, Virginia, while Dale served in the United States military. Belva taught school in South Norfolk while they lived there.

After Dale’s discharge from military duty, the couple moved back to Wayne where they began their family. They lived in Wayne and Norfolk before moving to Columbus in 1963. Belva worked at Liberty Cleaners and in 1973 they purchased Stromsburg Locker and moved to Stromsburg. Dale died in 1991 and Belva sold the company and moved back to Columbus in 1992. She worked in the cafeteria at Columbus High School until retiring in 1998.

Belva was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for a number of years. She enjoyed knitting, antiques and reading.

Belva is survived by her son Dave (Susan) Forsberg Sr. of Columbus; grandson Dave (Jamie) Forsberg Jr. of Columbus; great-grandchildren Sarah and Jacob; grandson Matthew (Jean) Forsberg of Columbus; great-grandchildren Gavin and Emily; son Dan’s children granddaughter Shawna (Mike) Woosley of Columbus, great-grandchild Lillian, grandson Sean (Rebecca) Forsberg of Tigard, Oregon, and great-grandchildren Benjamin and Hannah; brother Dennis (Chris) Manske of Gladstone, Missouri; daughter-in-law Lynn Carmichael of Tigard, Oregon.

Belva was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Lena Manske; husband Dale Forsberg; son Dan Forsberg; and brother Kennard Manske.
