COLUMBUS — Charles "Charlie" L. Ewert, 61, of Columbus, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Revs. Michael Klatt and Cory Burma officiating. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be at Peace Lutheran Church from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Columbus Alzheimer's Association.

Charlie Ewert was born Dec. 28, 1955, in Columbus to Adrian and Gloria (Proskovec) Ewert. He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Columbus High School. In January 1978, Charlie and his brother Doug began Ewert Drywall, which he currently operated with his brother.

From Charlie’s first marriage he had three children. On July 15, 2000, after six years of dating, Charlie was united in marriage to Kathy Hilger in Columbus. Charlie enjoyed hunting, trap shooting with his team “Mud Slingers,” cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to visit the Black Hills, and watching the History Channel and Westerns. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Kathy Ewert of Columbus; son, Charles Jr. “Chuck” (Catherine) Ewert of Columbus; daughter, Angela “Angie” (Ron) Hake of Columbus; daughter, Amanda “Mandy” (Brandon) Wemhoff of Columbus; stepson, Jared (significant other Brandi Gertsch) Hoessel of Monroe; stepdaughter, Stephanie (Rich) Gordon of San Tan Valley, Arizona; stepson, Justin (significant other Angie Wood) Shepherd of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; brother, Doug Ewert of Columbus; sister, Ann (Gregg) Richards of Floresville, Texas; brother, Jack Ewert of Columbus; and sister-in-law, Colleen Ewert of Lincoln, California.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Gloria Ewert; brother, David Ewert; and stepson-in-law, Christopher Johnson.
