COLUMBUS -- Elsa L. Cattau, 97, of Columbus, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Private family interment will be held prior to the service. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran School or those of the donor's choice.

Elsa L. Cattau was born June 30, 1920, in Colfax County, to Ernest and Anna (Bakenhus) Otte. She was baptized on Aug. 1, 1920, at Christ Lutheran Church. Elsa went to Colfax County #46 and Christ Lutheran Grade School and confirmed her Christian faith through confirmation on May 13, 1934, also at Christ Lutheran. Elsa graduated from Leigh High School in Leigh and attended Grand Island Business College for two years. She worked at a bank in Columbus prior to her marriage on Nov. 16, 1941, to Werner F. Cattau at Christ Lutheran Church. Elsa worked the dairy farm with Werner.

Elsa was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church where she had been part of the Altar Guild. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and making baby blankets for all the relatives. For 15 years, Elsa and Werner wintered in Arizona.

Elsa is survived by daughter Linda G. Cattau of Columbus, granddaughter Melissa (Craig) Foltz of Platte Center, son Bill (Marian) Cattau of Columbus, grandson Jeremy (Sonja) Cattau of Aurora, granddaughter Becky Cattau of Columbus, grandson Nathan (Tracy) Cattau of Columbus, grandson Isaac (fiancée Kelly Fox) Cattau of Jupiter, Florida, son Curt (Ruth Ann) Cattau of Orange, California, grandson Andrew (Kim) Cattau of Boulder, Colorado, grandson Luke (fiancée – Ann Dziabo) Cattau of Long Beach, California, son Cliff (Linda) Cattau of Columbus, grandson Chris Cattau of Chicago, grandson Aaron (Kristen) Cattau of Columbus, son Arlyn (Ann) Cattau of Columbus, grandson Zach (fiancée Kaitlyn Janata) Cattau of Columbus, 12 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, three step-great-great-grandchildren, sisters Rose Cattau and Leona Kant of Columbus and many nieces and nephews.

Elsa was preceded in death by parents Ernst and Anna Otte, husband Werner Cattau on June 17, 2002, sister and brother-in-law Edna and Hugo Inselman and brothers-in-law Clarence Cattau and Carroll Kant.
