COLUMBUS — A Mass of Christian Burial for Ethel Ruskamp, 95, of Columbus, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, rural Dodge.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is in charge of the arrangements.
Ethel passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.
Ethel Marion Ruskamp was born on Feb. 23, 1922, at West Point to Joseph and Anna (Dirkschneider) Batenhorst. She attended rural school near Beemer.
On June 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lumier Ruskamp at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. The couple farmed northwest of Dodge. Ethel had worked at the Dodge Café and also for Emil Wagner. In 1986, they moved to Columbus. She helped her daughter Mary Kay at Tender Loving Care Daycare and later worked at The Laundry Line for her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Steve.
Ethel was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. She enjoyed playing cards, word searches and playing the piano and button accordion. Ethel loved to bake, with rolls and pies being her specialty.
Survivors include her daughter Lou Ann and Bob Wiechman of West Point, daughter Janet and Steve Sueper of Columbus, daughter Dorothy and Dan Brunsing of West Point, daughter Mary Kay and Dale Hegemann of Columbus, son Gerald and Marlene Ruskamp of Wisner, son Duane Ruskamp of Wisner, daughter Geralyn and David Luhring of Ft. Worth, Texas, daughter Elaine Fisher of Omaha, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, brother Winfred Batenhorst of Beemer, and sister Marcella Praest of Dodge.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lumier in 1998, son Paul Ruskamp, grandson Aaron Ruskamp, son-in-law Bill Fisher, sister Verna Reiman, and brothers Valen, Joe Jr. and Richard Batenhorst.
