Gloria R. (Grigsby) Gallion, 76, of Grand Island, formerly of Albion, died March 5, 2018, at Park Place Rehab Center in Grand Island.
A celebration of life is planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Solt Wagner Community Room, 1507 17th St., Central City.
Mrs. Gallion was cremated and burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Gallion Family, 802 D Avenue, Central City, NE 68826. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Feb. 15, 1942, at Aledo, Ill., to Perry and Martha “Ruth” (Eaton) Grigsby. She grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1960.
She attended Kearney State College and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in home economics education and art. She taught home economics at Kenesaw, Gordon, Deshler and Albion.
She married David Gallion on Aug. 7, 1966. The couple lived in Kenesaw and Gordon before moving to Deshler where the couple ran the Country Squire Cafe for eight years. In 1979, the couple moved to Albion to be closer to family. She ran the food service program for Albion Public School for 19 years followed by 12 years leading the food service program at Columbus Public Schools.
She retired in 2009 and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 2016.
Mrs. Gallion was a talented seamstress and quilter. Like the beautiful quilts that Mrs. Gallion made, her life was a tapestry of love and artistry. She loved to create unique and personal quilts, table runners, clothes and doll clothes for her family and friends. She collected dolls her entire life as well as antiques. For many years she decorated cakes and has donated hundreds of doll clothes and quilts to local charities.
She was a member of the Lone Tree Quilt Guild in Central City, Order of Eastern Star Harmony Chapter out of Columbus and a member of the United Methodist Church in Albion. She formerly was the president of the Nebraska School Food Service Association and taught classes at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in the summers.
Survivors include her husband, David; sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Colleen Gallion of Grand Island, Jeff and Maryjo Gallion of Chapman and Tim Gallion of Aurora; daughter and son-in-law, Leanne and AAron Blanchard of Central City; grandchildren, Jared and Julieanne Gallion, Alex Gallion, Molly and Emmett Blanchard, and Cheynelle Blanchard of Denver, Sierra Blanchard of Glendale, Ariz., and Taylor Blanchard of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bryce; a sister, Dorothy; a brother, Jim, and one granddaughter, Megan.
