Harold Gerhart Jr.

NEWMAN GROVE -- Harold Lincoln (Bud) Gerhart Jr. was born June 23, 1928, to H.L. (Buzz) and Dorothy (Hallgren) Gerhart Sr. in Newman Grove. He passed away on Feb. 15, 2018, in Lincoln. Bud was raised in Newman Grove and attended Newman Grove Public Schools, graduating in 1946. Bud attended the University of Nebraska where he met his bride of 66 years, Georgieanne. At the university he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the Reserve Officer Training Corps. After graduation, he was sworn in as an Ensign, United States Navy and assigned to the USS Sicily aircraft carrier providing the First Marine Division close air support during the Korean War. Bud and Georgie were married in 1951 and following his military service, they made their home in Newman Grove, where they raised their family and lived for the next 58 years. Bud had a lifelong career in the family business, the First National Bank of Newman Grove. He was the third generation in line as president of the bank, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, and preceding his son and grandson. Bud was a leader in the banking industry at the local, state and national level. He served as president of the Nebraska Independent Bankers Association, president of the Independent Bankers Association of America and served on the Board of Directors of the

Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He was active in the United Methodist Church and Fellowship Bible Church in Newman Grove in addition to many community organizations. Bud and Georgie were avid tennis players, cyclists, and skiers and shared those activities with their children and grandchildren.

Bud is survived by his children Jeff (Rebecca) Gerhart of Newman Grove, Julie (Peter) Skeffington of Loveland, Colorado, and Sarah (Jeff) Peetz of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Mary Ellen Petersen; and sister-in-law, Kay (Roger) Ottenbach.

He is preceded in death by his wife Georgianne, parents, sister-in-law, Juanita (Poochie) Maloney and brothers-in-law, Carl Petersen and Ed Maloney Memorials to The Newman Grove Community Foundation/Jeff Gerhart, P.O.
