COLUMBUS — Harvey George Anderson Jr., 81, of Columbus, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus Alzheimer's Association.
Harvey George Anderson Jr. was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Monroe to Harvey Sr. and Anna (Reese) Anderson. He graduated from Monroe High School and entered the United States Army on Oct. 25, 1956. Harvey was honorably discharged on Oct. 19, 1959, after serving in Germany. Harvey went to work for Ziegler Oil in Monroe, and while on a delivery, met Kathy Will. He presented her with a lollipop and promised her that one day he would marry her. The couple were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1970, in Yankton, South Dakota.
Harvey worked at Kaufman Hardware before going to work for Becton Dickinson where he retired from after 30 years. He also worked at Nitz Furniture while working at Becton Dickinson. Harvey was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, enjoyed playing cards, watching Monday and Tuesday night wrestling, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Harvey is survived by his daughter Karie (David) Maneely of Duncan, grandson Kurtis (Katie) Kiser of Kimball, granddaughter Kaylee Jo Rhoades of West Point, sister Dorothy Gotschall of Columbus, brother Keith (Margaret) Anderson of Martinsville, Indiana, mother-in-law Jean Will of Columbus, brother-in-law Bill (Jeannie) Will of Burkesville, Kentucky, and brother-in-law Bob (Diane) Will of Columbus.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Harvey Sr. and Anna Anderson, wife Kathy Anderson, sisters Evelyn Garretson and Mary Ann Winchester, brother-in-law Gaylin Gotschall and father-in-law William Will.
