COLUMBUS — Jerome "Hoot" Condreay, 81, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at his home in Columbus.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Gass Haney Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Adam Lassen officiating. Casual dress is requested. Interment with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward at 3 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, all at Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested as those of the donor’s choice or to St. Edward Fire Department.
Jerome “Hoot” Condreay was born March 27, 1936, in St. Edward to Hazel and Martha (Thompson) Condreay. He attended St. Edward Public School and on Jan. 5, 1960, entered the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on March 1, 1962. On Nov. 27, 1976, Hoot was united in marriage to Mildred (Hall) Steinkruger in Schuyler. Hoot drove truck for Behlen’s, D & L and Sliva Transportation. He enjoyed listening to George Jones music, watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “NCIS,” playing pool and socializing with friends.
Hoot is survived by his daughter Cindy Lisko of Columbus; daughter Denise (Mark) Nelson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Barbara Olmedo of Omaha; grandchildren Tasha (Todd) Moss of Omaha, Jon Henninger of Omaha and Lyndi (Toe) Appleton of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren; best friends Tami Osantowski and Tim Long; and several cousins and friends.
Hoot was preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Martha Condreay; wife Millie Condreay; sons Timothy and Douglas Steinkruger; and grandson Lee Hunter.
