NORFOLK -- John “Jack” Roberts, 79, of Norfolk, passed away, Monday, September 23, 2013, at Faith Regional Health and Human Services, Norfolk.

Funeral services will be held at a private family service at a later date. Interment: Private family services at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Beatrice Roberts, 1715 Imperial Road, Norfolk, NE 68701.

John was born January 11, 1934 in Greybull, Wyoming to Arlie and Ruth (Otey) Roberts. He attended University of Laramie for one year, graduated from the University of Sioux Falls with a BA in Music. He was married to Beatrice Kluver on June 2, 1956 in Columbus.

He was a music teacher.

John received his Master’s in music supervision at Greeley, Colo. After John and Beatrice were married he taught music in various places, York for seven years. He went into private business in 1968. John retired in Columbus being a substitute teacher.

In 2005, John and Beatrice moved to Norfolk. He directed different church choirs and was a tenor soloist for weddings. John enjoyed watching “Big Red Football” and trout fishing. He also enjoyed his family and his grand-children. He was a member of the Community Theater in Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Roberts of Norfolk; son, John and wife LaVern Roberts Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; son, Walter Roberts of Tokyo, Japan; son, Scott Roberts of Norfolk; daughter, Roxanne and husband Darrin Deichmann of Norfolk; one brother, Eugene Roberts of Gold Beach, Oregon; and his beloved nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Ruth Roberts; one brother and one sister; and grandson, Noah Deichmann, in infancy.
